Dal tadka, also called dry fry and tadke wali dal, is cooked lentils tempered with spices roasted in oil or ghee. It is the most popular of the Punjabi dals after dal makhani, extremely easy to make and very delicious.

We have used urad dal to make this dal tadka but you can use any dal (split & skinned dal), like moong, arhar or masoor to prepare dal tadka.
